Miner Barnhill & Galland

Chicago, Illinois

A 7,500 SF LAW FIRM’S RELOCATION TO CHICAGO’S RIVER NORTH NEIGHBORHOOD

The landmarked Reid-Murdoch Building selected by Miner, Barnhill & Galland for its second home was the result of over a year of searching for the perfect location which would  signify the evolution of this forty-plus year old company, and convey a creative respect toward its original roots as a servant of the community. A highly functional corporate office space allowing the entire firm to be together on the same floor was a much needed improvement, but the traditional corporate aesthetic needed to be softened to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in which to visit and work. Throughout this urban loft space, an array of residential-inspired pendant light fixtures illuminate the way, and columns in the corridor adorned with a rich, tactile wallcovering created from headlines of recycled newspaper. Serve as a statement to this firm’s strength and longevity. Located on the third floor, this suite affords the opportunity for each and every employee, office dweller and conference room guest to benefit from the abundance of natural light that pours into the space from the north, south & east sides, and transparent glass office fronts provide a welcoming view of the Chicago Riverwalk and city beyond. Creatively inserted throughout are artifacts from the original law office, including a marble fireplace and mantle that welcomes guests into the cozy Reception area. The bright, white exposed ceiling elements are balanced by warm wood tones that bring a sense of scale and intimacy to the office environment, and provide a quiet sophistication to this prestigious, yet humble law firm.
